This Tuesday we are lucky enough to have the ladies of Ovenly, a Brooklyn-based bakery, in Austin to talk shop about their new cookbook and give some insight into how they built their culinary business. Please join us in our backyard from 1-3pm. We will have their famous Stumptown Shorties (Espresso + Burnt Sugar Shortbreads) available alongside our delicious Stumptown coffee and of course their new cookbook will be available for purchase as well.
This is a great opportunity for local foodie entrepreneurs to learn how they can get involved and get some tips on growing their business from a small local pastry shop to a national sensation.
Here's a little bit of info to get to know them better:
Located at 31 Greenpoint Ave in Brooklyn, NY, they were named Best Bakery in New York City by 2013 Time Out New York Food & Drink Awards. Ovenly is a creative bakery that explores culinary traditions with an unexpected twist. They thoughtfully meld salty and sweet with a touch of spice. Their main goal is to provide you with joy through flavor.
Agatha Kulaga (left) and Erin Patinkin (right) the founders, were inspired by their shared Eastern European background, and drew upon those food traditions as the groundwork for all of Ovenly's recipes. Everything they make goes through an intense process of experimentation that includes a lot of failures and even more expletives.
After meeting in a food-focused book club, the two immediately made plans to start cooking together. Soon they developed a collection of unique recipes, and founded Ovenly in 2010. They began by walking pastries from their homes to the doors of their first clients, and soon after were spending their days covered in flour, had to purchase a delivery van, and began shipping across the globe.
Though Erin and Agatha spend most of their days planning and developing the company, they are integral in the creation of Ovenly treats. It's their staff though, that bring those pastry dreams to life.
The rest is a work in progress. And now a look at their food!!!
